Description:
Proved that all atoms contain tiny negatively charged subatomic particles, electrons.
Experimented with cathode ray tubes to show this. He placed one positive electric plate around the cathode ray and one negative electric plate around the other side of the cathode ray. The ray was deflected away from the negative electric plate and went towards the positive plate. This showed that the cathode ray was composed of negatively-charged particles.
