jan 1, 1850 - Fugitive Slave Law Convention in Cazenovia, New York

Description:

More than 2,000 abolitionists gathered in upstate New York for the convention, including about 50 fugitive slaves (Frederick Douglass). They denounced the Fugitive Slave Act (Congress was debating it at the time). They issued a letter of solidarity to those enslaved. They raised money to free William Chaplin (D.C. man who helped a slave escape).
