sep 20, 1819 - Karlsbad Decrees
Description:
Decrees introduced by Austrian and Prussian leadership forcing the German states to outlaw liberal political organizations, police universities and newspapers, and establish a committee with spies and informants to shut down radicals. This was a response to liberal protests from students and reformers who wanted to unify the German states. These decrees remained in place until shortly after the revolution of 1848.
