Within a transgender person, the presence of gender variance is dysphoria, not the pathology. This has been caused by the distress of the transgender person's body and minds not aligning. This can also happen within the societal marginalization of gender-variant people. With this diagnosis, it needs to be ego-dystonic to qualify.
