Fast forward to the year 1966. The year that Harry Benjamin, M.D. published his foundational text that is called "The Transsexual Phenomenon". This text is credited with being able to popularize the term "transsexual" as it is used today. It also is used to educate medical professionals about transgender people, as well as being the pioneer for hormonal treatments to facilitate gender transition.
