Twister was pressed and released for sale in DVD format on March 25, 1997. Incidentally it wasn’t strictly the first DVD production, with several companies in the USA using the technology for visual effect projections and presentations earlier.
Although Twister was the first cinematic feature film on DVD, several other films and promotional documentaries were released in this format before this. Most notably on the 1st of February, Simtar released Return of the Boogeymen, an extremely poor, low budget film. It was never shown in a cinema and therefore can not hold the title of being the first feature film on DVD. Having said this, it still can claim to be the first commercially available pressed movie on the DVD format.
