In support of striking sanitation workers, Martin Luther King Jr. delivered this speech the day before he was assassinated, making it his final speech. The main themes of the speech were protesting against discrimination and fighting for freedom and equality.
Significance: This speech is extremely significant as King;s last speech and the hope it provides for the future. During the speech, King says that he has "been to the mountaintop" and seen the Promised Land. He mentions that "many not get there" but that "we, as a people, will get to the promised land".
Quote: "Many of us, grown men, were crying. We didn't known why we were crying. We had no way of knowing that would be the last speech of his life. And then he took us to the mountaintop..."
