feb 3, 1921 - Ernst Rohm
- Head of SA
Description:
Ernst Röhm, Röhm was a German army officer and chief organizer of Adolf Hitler’s Sturmabteilung, or SA (Brownshirts). Feared as a rival by Hitler, he was murdered at the Führer’s order.
Rohm’s enthusiasm for a full scale social and economic revolution worried many in business and industry.
Additionally, Rohm wanted the army incorporated into the SA (with him in charge). This was particularly troubling for the conservative army.
Under Rohm’s direction, violence escalated, and Hindenburg, business and the army demanded Hitler take action to steady the state of Germany.
In order for the army to support Hitler, the price was the SA and Rohm.
