jun 28, 1914 - Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand
Description:
Archduke Franz Ferdin and his wife Duchess Sofia were shot and killed in Sarajevo, the capital of the annexed Bosnia, on 28 June 1914. The assassin was Garvillo Princip, who was a Bosnian Serb nationalist and a member of an organisation called the Young Bosnians. The Archduke was a political figure and vocally opposed the idea of a war with Russia, as well as supporting the idea of giving Serbs more of a voice in government by creating a triple state with Austria, Hungary and the Slavic nations. Many influential monarchs, including the King of Britain and the Emperor of Russia, sent their condolences to the Austrian royal family.
