Description:
The Exxon Valdez oil tanker ran aground in Alaska, and spilled 11 million tons of oil. Exxon had to pay over 1 billion dollars in restitution. This impacted the environment greatly, as it was one of the biggest spills in the history of the world, covering almost 1300 miles of shoreline. hundreds of thousands of birds, otters, seals and whales were killed as a result. There is also still ongoing reserach in the area as a result in order to protect animals and land from oil spills in the future.
