The fish and wildlife service was created in 1940 in order to regulate the populations of fish and wildlife and to regulate those who hunted it. This is significant because keeping the correct balance between predator and prey will keep an ecosystem intact. If one were to offset this balance, predators could kill all the prey and run out of food, or prey would over graze plant life, and it's the fish and wildlife department that keeps this balance intact
