jan 1, 575 BC - Construction of the Ishtar Gate
Description:
The gate was commissioned by the Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar II. Nebuchadnezzar dedicated the gate to the goddess Ishtar (hence the name) as well as other deities. The gate is covered in depictions of animals that represent the various deities.
The gate was included in the first list of the 7 ancient wonders of the world, later to be replaced by the Lighthouse of Alexandria
