Sequence of events:
1. Prevost weakened southern ports in June 1779
2. Washington convinced d'Estaing’s troops to help the weakened southern states
3. D'Estaing reaches Georgia coast in early September
4. Lincoln and d’Estaing work on a plan
5. Prévost spots French reinforcements on September 4 and sends a warning out to all nearby forces. He prepares by puting 4000 soldiers at the Beaulieu Plantation, 10 miles south of Savannah
6. D’Estaing sets up French forces around the 15th
7. Battle begins on the 23rd, one of the bloodiest of the war
8. The battle ends in a landslide British Victory on the 23rd
There is no profound agreement over how many casualties, injuries, and prisoners came from the war. Some estimates are in the thousands.
