sep 3, 1783 - Treaty of Paris ends the American Revolution

Description:

The final treaty, the Treaty of Paris, was signed on September 3 of 1783. This was the treaty that ended the American Revolutionary War and recognized the United States as an independent country. The treaty was negotiated by John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and John Jay. This team of three's main goals were to get Britain to recognize America's independence, access to Canada's coast for fishing, and for Britain to yield even more land so the United States would be double the size as it was before. The Americans were very bold to ask for these things, but the British had no choice but to agree. In return, The Americans agreed to free loyalists from harsh laws and return to them the land that was confiscated during the war. The United States is now an independent country, and one of the most powerful countries in the world.
