jan 1, 1928 - The Griffith experiment takes place, and first suggests the idea that bacteria are capable of transferring genetic material in what is called transformation.

Description:

In this experiment, Griffith applied different strains of pneumonia to rats. The rough strain and heat-killed smooth strain both had no affect on the rat when applied sperately. But when Griffith applied both of them together, the mouse died. This proved the existince of transformation because the DNA from the heat killed strand joined with that of the rough strand in order to become lethal once again.
