aug 2, 1915 - Significance

Description:

- As the military defeats and high casualty tallies keep occuring, the Tsar could now be directly blamed for the problems of World War I
- People began to lose faith in his power as ruler
- The Tsarina’s political inexperience, her reliance on Rusputin and her German accent, made the people feel that she was a German spy
- The general public despised Rasputin as they believed he represented all the problems with the Tsarist regime. Therefore, his new rise to power created significant discontent
- The Bolsheviks were also able to use this discontent and despair to convince soldiers to desert and return home. Bolshevik propaganda convinced the public that deserting would help the revolution and that it wasn’t cowardice
