Description:
- Split into Bolsheviks (majority) and Mensheviks (minority) (even though Mensheviks held majority)
- Lenin saw the SDs as 'vanguards of the proletariat' that would lead the peasants to revolution
- Martov believed the SDs should educate the peasants so they could lead their own revolution
- Lenin wanted to give 'land and freedom' to the peasants
- Lenin wanted tight membership
- Martov wanted to open the SDs to all workers
