The Battle of the Coral Sea was a major naval battle between the Imperial Japanese Navy and naval and air forces from the United States and Australia. 92 aircrafts were destroyed. This is important because It was the first pure carrier-versus-carrier battle in history as neither surface fleet sighted the other and for the first time, the Allies had stopped the Japanese advance.
