feb 6, 1778 - France Allies with America

Description:

With the help of Silas Deane and Benjamin Franklin, they convinced the French to support their cause. Because of the Patriot's opposition to Britain, the French would supply the Patriots with supplies due to their rivalry with Britain. In 1778, the French formally allied with the continental army and soon followed by the Spanish and the Dutch. The French desired revenge after their defeat in the Seven Years War. One of the most significant actions done by the French was the naval blockade of Yorktown in the siege of Yorktown. The French involvement in the war came at a great cost causing the French to enter 1 billion livres in debt and triggering the French Revolution.
