feb 1, 1905 - Significance
Description:
- The peasant revolts meant that Nicholas was losing control of the countryside. Whilst the establishment of Unions and Soviets meant that peasants now had formal representatives that could express their grievances.
- Nicholas often ordered the army to quash revolts in the countryside. However, the army was made of peasant soldiers, many therefore either refused to participate or reluctantly followed orders. This created discontent within the army.
- 1905 highlighted that the revolution was a massive movement supported by the people, not just revolutionary leaders.
