On 15 August 1906, the National Council of Education was set up.
NCE was an organization founded by Satish Chandra Mukherjee and other Indian nationalists in Bengal.
A National College with Aurobindo Ghose as principal was started in Calcutta.
Purposes and Objectives of the National Council of Education:
Literary as well as Scientific and Technical – on National Lines and exclusively under National Control, not in opposition to, but standing apart from, the existing systems of primary, secondary and University Education.
Promoting physical and Moral Education and Providing for denominational Religious Education.
Special importance to knowledge, like Literature, History, and Philosophy and incorporating with the best Oriental ideals of life and thought and the best assailable ideals of the West.
