Facebook started experimenting with automated content moderation using a list of pre-identified slurs. Early experimentations resulted in the mass take down, in May 2017, of thousands of legitimate pieces of content that included the keyword 'kalar'. Though 'kalar' is used as a slur to denigrate individuals of south asian decent, is also a composite in a number of benign words such as 'kalar - htain' (chair) and 'kalar pae' (chick pea).
