It has been revealed that Johnny Depp shares his ancestors with none other than the Queen.
The pair are cousins, 20 times removed, a genealogist researching Depp's family tree has revealed.

Hollywood actor Depp, 47, is descended from the Deppes family - French Huguenots living in 14th Century England.

Dr Nick Barratt, who works on the British version of Who Do You Think You Are?, told the Sunday Mirror: 'You have to go back more than 500 years to reach the point where his ancestors become royal.'

Researching Depp's family tree, Dr Barratt found that one branch of his ancestors were descended from Sir William Gascoigne and his wife Margaret Percy, aristocrats who lived in Yorkshire in the 15th Century.

Margaret was the daughter of the 3rd Earl of Northumberland and a direct descendent of King Edward III.

Her Majesty is Edward III's great granddaughter, 17 times removed. But that is where the similarities between the two end.

While the Queen was born in London into one of the world's wealthiest families, Depp was born in Kentucky.

Aside from the royals, his ancestors are farmers.
