The PGM-11 Redstone was the first large American ballistic missile, and the first of the Redstone rocket family, which eventually launches the first US astronaut to space. Originally, this rocket was made as a weapon for the U.S. Army, and suffered only partial success during the first few tests.The PGM-11 Redstone had 3 stages and weighed 61,207 pounds . It was 69.3 feet tall, and was 5.83 feet in diameter.
At liftoff, the rocket had 78,000 pounds of force which lasted for approximately 121 seconds.
