mar 6, 1857 - Dred Scott v. Sandford
Description:
Scott, a slave, was moved from MO to IL by his owner. Before they returned to MO, his owner died. Scott argued that since his owner died in a free state, Scott was a free man. The court ruled in favor of the slave owner, because African-Americans weren't citizens, so they didn't have the right to go to court.
