- pariliament didnt trust him so they gave him two installments of £140,000 instead and only gave him a year of tonnage and poundage instead of giving it to him for the rest of his life
- buckingham was also a problem because he was the king's favourite but nobody liked him
- charles took it personally that he was being treated differently as compared to all of the kings before him
