Description:

Soviet Union and seven other Soviet satellite states in Central and Eastern Europe: Albania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, Poland and Romania (Albania withdrew in 1968).

- In reaction to NATO, the Soviet Union formed the Warsaw Pact
- This was an alliance with the Eastern European states
- Similar to NATO, under the Warsaw Pact, the member states agreed that they would come to each other’s defence if they were attacked by any external party

The Warsaw Pact was the military complement to Cominform and Comecon.
