Description:
■ Khrushchev sent another letter asking for the removal of Jupiter missiles in Turkey if the Soviet Union removed the missiles in Cuba
■ Castro was ready and preparing for war
■ He wrote a letter on 26 Oct to Khrushchev arguing for a first strike against the USA
Kennedy:
- Kennedy willing to deal as missiles in Turkey was obsolete and unreliable
- However, Turkey opposed the deal
- Kennedy also unwilling to be seen in public as bowing to demands of the
enemy
- Sent his brother, Robert Kennedy to propose the deal verbally that Turkey’s missiles will be removed over time
- Deal had to be done in secret
