jan 1, 1916 - Administrative Principles Approach
Description:
This approach to management is based on 14 principles that every aspiring manager should know.
The 14 principles are:
1. Division of labour - Specialization in a certain area ensures improved competency
2. Authority - Managers and employees need to understand that managers are in their full right to give orders.
3. Discipline - Behaviour should be derived from respect and grounded in obedience towards those in power.
4. Unity of Command - Each employee should have only one manager.
5. Unity of Direction - The leader develops a plan, and everyone is involved in its completion.
6. Subordination of Individual interests - When at work, only issues related to the job should be discussed.
7. Remuneration - All would receive fair pay for their work.
8. Centralization - Decisions should be made for this at the top of the hierarchy.
9. Scalar Chain - Every organization should have a clear hierarchy of command.
10. Order - Everything should be put in its place.
11. Equity - Managers should be courteous and fair.
12. Personnel Tenure - Unnecessary turnover should be avoided, and good workers should be guaranteed lifetime employment.
13. Initiative - All work should be approached with enthusiasm and energy.
14. Esprit de corps - Managers should strive to create good relationships Amon employees.
This approach also states that management duties are: foresight - planning for the future; organization - to provide supplies an resources to accomplish the plan; command - to select, lead and evaluate workers to ensure best results; coordination - to ensure problems are solved and all are putting in the effort; and control - to ensure everything is according to plan and make corrections if necessary.
