may 10, 1779 - Skirmish at Fort Lyttleton
Description:
The fort was triangular built of tabby to protect Beaufort from the French during the French and Indian War. The fort was seized by the Patriots in 1775 but abandoned when a British raiding party landed on Port Royal Island in Feb 1779. When the British withdrew, the fort was reoccupied but again in May of 1779 the fort was abandoned and burned to prevent the British from using the fort.
