feb 14, 1781 - Capture of DePeyster (Postell's Plantation, Hasty Point, Belle Rive)

Description:

Capt. John Postell, Jr. (Kingstree Regiment) heard that Capt. James DePeyster had installed himself in his father's house. On the night of February 20th, Capt. Postell with fourteen men crept near his father's home and waited until morning to strike. He demanded surrender and Capt. DePeyster asked for some time to make up his mind. Capt. Postell responded that he would not give him five minutes, then proceeded to set his father's house on fire. Capt. DePeyster finally surrendered to a smaller force and he was enraged.
