mar 22, 1782 - Raid on Dewees' Tavern

Description:

Patriot Lt Ballard Smith took 12 men across the Ashley River to attempt capture of British officers at Dewees Tavern. The Negro guide took them to the wrong location but Sgt DuCoin went to the tavern observing 20 to 30 British and Hession officer dancing to music. The following evening, Sgt DuCoin led the boat to the tavern, finding only one Hessian Major and LT who were both paroled when the Patriots return to the west side of the river.
