James Kirkpatrick was a member of Col Thomas Brandon's Patriot militia. Kirkpatrick slipped through Tory lines to visit his family. He had just entered his home, surrounded by his family when Tories burst in and shot him dead. He is buried in the Bullock Creek Presbyterian Church,
