nov 8, 1780 - Capt Murphy 's Defeat

Description:

Patriot Capt Delany militia force was working to road along the Georgetown to Cheraw Road for Tories. Patriot Capts Morris Mruphy and Henry Council with their companies were ranging the Pee Dee River hunting Tories. Loyalist Maj Jesse Barfield, a nortorious Loyalist was also ranging with his company in the same area. Near Jeffries Creek, Maj Murphy company skirmished wtih a Tory force, possibly Maj Barfield. Maj Murphy was killed and his company defeated. The Tories continued on to Georgetown.
