nov 19, 1781 - Skirmish at Hayes' Station
Description:
Major William “Bloody Bill” Cunningham and a large force of Loyalist militia attacked a group of Patriot militia that were resting in the home of their commander, Col. Joseph Hayes. They learned smoke was coming from near the plantation house of the late Brig Gen James Williams' widow. The Patriots rode to an old Cherokee War Block House and were surrounded by Cunningham's Loyalist so they entered the block house. Patriots surrendered when the block house was set on fire. Bloody Bill then lived up to his name by tying them to a long rope, then hangnig them and personally dismembering prisoners in cold blood.
