sep 8, 1780 - Nathan Savage's House Burned

Description:

British Maj James Wemyss conducted a 15 mile wide march burning everything between Kingstee and Cheraw on both sided of the Pee Dee River. Wemyss not only burned buildings but destroyed looms, blacksmith shops, shot sheep and milk cows. Wemyss burned the home of Patriot private Nathan Savage serving under Gen Francis Marion. Savage was the man who fired a flaming arrow into the roof of Rebecca Motte's house which caused the British to surrender in the action at Fort Motte (Buckhead)
