nov 3, 1775 - Skirmish at Mine Creek

Description:

In hopes to avert an outbreak of Indian raids and to appease the Cherokees, South Carolina President Henry Laurens sent 1,000 pounds of gunpowder upcountry for them to use for hunting, and for good will. This powder and associated lead for making shot was escorted by a detachment of the SC 3rd Regiment of Rangers, under the command of Lt. Thomas Charlton. On November 3, 1775, Patrick Cunningham and his group of about sixty Loyalists captured a wagon train at Mine Creek in route to delivering gunpowder to the Cherokees from the First SC Provincial Congress. The Loyalists made prisoners of the guard of twenty Rangers and the officers but later released them. Sojme sources say the incident occurred 31 Oct 1775 in Lexington County?
