sep 28, 1775 - Skirmish at Cumming's Point
Description:
When 30 Patriots attempted to go to Cumming’s Point in three canoes, the HMS Tamar moved to intercept them. However, the wind died and the HMS Tamar beached on a sandbar. Capt. Thornborough used the anchor and kedge to haul the ship into a better wind and came within range of the Patriots. He fired 6-pounders with round shot and the Patriots quickly reversed course. HMS Sloop Tamar harassed Patriots building forts around Charleston.
