Description:

Continental Army Maj. Gen. Horatio Gates's entrance into South Carolina met by Francis Lord Rawdon. Lord Rawdon's successful defense of Porter's Bridge from Gates' "Grand Army" advancing towards Camden, S.C. The Patriots engaged British sentries at Porter's Bridge with long-range rifles, but never hit any of them due to the thick woods. After a two-day delay, Major General Gates moved up the creek and crossed over. Lord Rawdonwas successful in delaying Gate's army and withdrew to Camden.
