aug 2, 1781 - British Bombardment and Burning of Georgetown

Description:

The British evacuated Georgetown on June 5th but became concerned the Patriots would use the port to supply Gen Greene's army. Capt Manson, commander of the Loyalist schooner demanded the landing of Britrish troops but Patriot Captain Davis refused. Capt Manson then bombarded Georgetown before landing British troops, scattering the few Patriot defenders and burnimg several buildings near the waterfront.
