jun 18, 1781 - Skirmish at Rogers' Plantation (Rogiard's Plantation, Old Fields)

Description:

Col. Francis, Lord Rawdon's army was advancing to the relief of Ninety Six. Lt. Col. Samuel Hammond detached a small party from his regiment of militia commanded by Capt Thomas Harvey for the purpose of protecting the countryside. Capt Harvey's force of only twenty-four men attacked a party of over seventy Loyalists at Rogers' Plantation, which is supposed to have been near the present town of Edgefield. The Patriots totally routed the Loyalists, killed several, and took almost all of their arms but in doing so, Capt Harvey was killed by the British.
