Description:

Prior to the revolution, the British Parliament established the Stamp Act. On 26 Oct 1765, Mr Saxby, the Stamp Master and the Stamps were lodged at Fort Johnson. That night 150 volunteers from Charles Town captured the fort, Mr Saxby and the Stamps. An ultimatum was given to remove the Stamps or they would be burned. Mr Saxby and the Stamps were placed on the British ship Speedwell and departed Charles Town Harbor.
