may 28, 1781 - British surrender Georgetown
Description:
Brigadier General Marion began to lay a standard siege of Georgetown by digging trenches. However, the British boarded their vessels at 9 p.m. that evening and left the town. They had spiked their three 9-pounders and a cannonade, then knocked them off their trunnions. The Patriots entered the town and leveled the British works as the British ships waited outside the bar at Winyah Harbor.
