Description:

Lt Col John Laurens set up an ambush at Tarr Bluff stopping the British flotilla when it sailed away from Brig Gen Gist force at the ferry. British Maj William Brereton landed a large force and Laurens withdrew to high ground to make a stand against a superior number. The British conducted a double envelopment, drawing Laurens into an ambush killing Laurens and defeating the Patriots.
