may 22, 1781 - Skirmish at Saluda River

Description:

On May 22nd, Gen Greene camped on Bush River, arriving the next day at Ninety Six. After marching twenty-three miles and crossing the Saluda River, Lt. Col. William Washington and his men surprised a party of Loyalist militia and attacked them. They killed four, then moved on to Ninety Six to rejoin Major General Nathanael Greene.
