apr 21, 1781 - Kirkwood and Washington's Raid on Wateree Ferry

Description:

The night of the 19th, as ordered by Gen Greene, Patriot Capt Kirkwood's Delaware Continentals captured Log Town. On the 20th, Gen Greene determined that capture of Log Town made it clear the British could not be successfully attacked so Gen Green withdrew to Hobkirk Hill. Capt Kirkwood's infantry and Lt Col Washington's Dragoons raided Wateree Ferry just west of Camden. Under the nose of the British but out of cannon range, they successfully burned a fortified house and seized 40 horses and 50 head of cattle.
