jan 14, 1780 - The ship Jesu, Maria & Joseph ashore on Caper's Island

Description:

The armed ship Jesu, Maria, and Joseph under command of Don Maquel Lorenzo Ysaardi was reported aground near Caper's Island. The ship carrying a cargo of rum from Havana, Cuba to Charles Town fought several British ships prior to running aground. Under the protection of the Continental ship Ranger part of the cargo was saved. The ships orgin is unknown but based on the name of the ship and captain, it may well have been sailing under a Spanish flag which would mean it was allied with France and the Colonies against Britian.
