jan 31, 1865 - The 13th Amendment
Description:
The 13th Amendment was one step closer to equality, as this is what made slavery illegal. Ourdocuments.gov (8) clarifies what it actually did, "The 13th amendment, which formally abolished slavery in the United States, passed the Senate on April 8, 1864, and the House on January 31, 1865. On February 1, 1865, President Abraham Lincoln approved the Joint Resolution of Congress submitting the proposed amendment to the state legislatures. The necessary number of states ratified it by December 6, 1865," (Our Documents 1). This influential document fueled a lot of the anger that existed within some of the White population in America, which would lead to racism outside of the plantations.
