the fall of the Soviet union was the fault of three thing a military factor, a economic factor, and a pollical factor as the military kept on spending billions on military spending, it was estimated that 10-20 percent of the ussr GDP was going into there military and putting a economic strain on the government,

the political factor as Mikhail Gorbachev was elected president, made a it so that area of the soviet bloc cloud now have free elections which the citizen can now vote for who ever they want too also allowing free speech, also his abonnement of the Brezhnev doctrine in which they would not longer help defend communist countries

and in august of the same year communist hard liners try to over throw Mikhail Gorbachev and try to stop the failing reforms in a coup, but had failed, but it had unfortunately that only made the situation worse as many politician pulled out and states of the soviet union started to state there independence, and round the ussr smaller soviet republic started that hold there own election for there leaders, and one of which Boris yeltsin was elected the president of Russia, and made agreements with Ukraine for independence there also the factor Mikhail Gorbachev resignation and fall of the communist party ending the legacy of the soviet union on the 26th of December and the cold war

the historical significance of this event was that now the cold war was over and made the US the winner, after it's fall it made way for the influence of US as a super power and allowing it to show there policical power
