Churchill's speech talked about the the need for protection of peace and stability, the threat the Soviet Union and communism held, and described the enduring alliance between the United States and Great Britain.

The Iron Curtain speech was highly significant because it helped bolster American and Western European opposition to communism and the Soviet Union, offering a blueprint for the west to ultimately wage, and win, the Cold War. The speech also significantly increased tensions between the US and Soviet Union, as Stalin interpreted the speech as US beliefs being broadcasted though Churchill.
